So much charisma in Ngeringa’s wines. They don’t always work, but that’s the price you pay for personality sometimes.
The Ngeringa Single Vineyard Iluma Vineyard Syrah 2021 comes off their most elevated vineyard at the Mt Barker summit, 420m asl. Blood red with some purple in that colour, and it smells riper than the alc would suggest. Glossy, lively, a bit warm, with sticky plum fruit and a faint bitterness. Definitely Adelaide Hills Shiraz, with flecks of bark and black pepper in that rather ripe and warm palate. Great expanse of purple flavour, even if it feels just a bit full throttle in some lights, and those hints of rosemary and peppercorn really make it. Nice wine.
