Oh yeah, this Paisley Boombox Shiraz 2021 is a tune! Nice one DJ Deadly.
Deadly – aka Derek Fitzgerald – is the man on the turntables at Paisley Wines. Not just Paisley, as he’s also the winemaker at the reborn Burge Family Wines. The DJ part comes because he used to make mixtapes for his friends signed off as DJ Deadly (there are Spotify mixes up on the Paisley website too).
This Paisley Boombox Shiraz 2021 is what I think he does best – bangin’ Barossan lusciousness, delivered at an unbeatable price.
This is a riotous Barossa red, with this cavalcade of fresh plum and boysenberry fleshiness that just expands out in a rich, medium-bodied flow of roundness and enveloping flavour. It’s Barossa Shiraz in a cosseting, fruit explosion mode, oak not a player, and purple fruit to the fore, with just a little warmth to finish (though you don’t really see the 15% alc.)
The only thing lacking is a back palate tannic punch, though at $25 that’s not really the point. Great value drinking here.- especially for $25.
- Best drinking: now to ten years (but drink it sooner for best effect)
- Score (out of 20): 17.7
- Score (out of 100): 92
- Alcohol %: 15
- RRP (in $AUD): 25
- Winery website: https://www.paisleywines.com.au/
- Would I buy it?: sure would
