Name me a better, widely available white wine in Australia. Yeah, I’ll wait. Pewsey Vale Riesling is especially consistent too – every vintage, it’s just bloody good. And seriously intense. This Pewsey Vale Riesling 2023 is a steely powerhouse too. It’s a backward, and aloof vintage, but with such concentration, this year leaning from the usual lime and into more grapefruit and lemongrass. Excellent citrussy intensity – it’s so varietal with the most hardcore acidity. Man, all that drive and you can still buy it retail for circa $20? Unbeatable.
- Best drinking: drink it right now, or come back in a decade. It's all good
- Score (out of 20): 18.5
- Score (out of 100): 94
- Alcohol %: 11.5
- RRP (in $AUD): 26

- Would I buy it?: in a heartbeat

Howdee Andrew, What I love about your tastings hence scores is the no bee ess factor. You do tell it what it’s like for the lay person to consider. Had a few of yours and my score is very similar to yours most times and i am sure many of your readers would agree with me on that one. But back to this topic and I do go back a bit when you had surely had hair to give you a classic from the past, one that many I hope will agree with .The best go to white was the Houghton White burgundy with a red sash across the label, made in west Oz from a blend of goodness but it never disappointed. About eight bucks a bot in the day, it was seriously good.
You could also throw in the Chateau Tahbilk, name change by Purbrick, as a white classic with quality too.
