Ballarat via Jura Chardonnay. What a challenging (but in a joyful way) wine is this Attwoods Garibaldi Farm Chardonnay 2022. This western Victorian Chardonnay smells of almond meal, waxy lemons and then a smorgasbord of flor-like wildness that feels like a few bottles of Tissot were downed by Troy during production. Complexity and a bit of woolly funk. After that ride, this is quite a taut and tangy white underneath, a little jaunty but mouthfilling with its mealy punch and creamy leesy almond/lemon nutty flow.
A wine with shitloads going on – and I can acknowledge that if you want pure lines, turn away now. I like it, but the only question remains whether the slightly more tautly defined Glenlyon Estate wine is a better drink.
