Marchand & Burch Villages Rosé 2023

Review: Marchand & Burch Villages Rosé 2023

Continuing on today’s theme with another rosé. It’s a fascinating style too, especially as rosé is the only wine style where colour matters to popularity. The shift towards ever leaner in recent years is a huge shift too. That’s not a bad thing, but gee, there is an ocean of underripe/hard/flavourless wines as a result.

This Marchand & Burch rosé isn’t that.

A blend of Swan Valley, Margaret River & Great Southern fruit, with old vine Grenache. Shiraz and Pinot Noir. Nice. Importantly, this has lovely, creamy, soft-edged strawberry stone fruit thanks to a smorgasbord of different winemaking influences – some barrel ferments, some lees stirring. The whole shebang. Well-judged fruit vs delicacy and gentle textural layers. Simply smart.
