It’s that time again. Time to inspire me to spend more money on drinks, even though the WineArk cabinet can’t be closed properly and the Amex is maxed out.
So, what wine, beer and other drinks have you been buying and drinking this month?
I’m on holiday for the whole back half of June, spending it largely by the pool in Bali (as the cover photo shows). That means the drinking is largely confined to Kura Kura beers, a small amount of wine that came with me (capped at 1 litre per person) and a shedload of cocktails (as I talked about last year).
Back home, there’s plenty of wine to entice me, however. I topped up with Heymann-Löwenstein Riesling, one of the glorious Callejuela Palominos, Christophe 1er Chablis and more Te Mata Awatea. 2019 is a birth year, so I can see myself spending more money on ’19 Barolo shortly too.
What about you? What are you spending your dollars on this month?

I’ve been shopping for WA shiraz, with both Three Elms and Marchand and Burch making it into the basket. In addition, did a quick bite on Bordeaux en primeur 2023 for some Sauternes and a couple of Cru Bourgeoise. Better be a good boy now for the rest of the month! 😄
Most of the en primeur money is not due for years! This is the correct excuse 🙂
Thousand Candles Cab Franc and Mount Langi Ghiran Cliff Edge Shiraz. Hopefully some of the Stella Bella Luminosa & Suckfizzle cab savs too if i can swing a second mortgage with the bank.
Trying to fill my cellar with the 22 pinnacle Shiraz, cab Sauv and cab franc from Ross Hill wines, as I heard from my recent visit to Orange that their super talented head winemaker Luke had gone back to his native SA and these were the last wines he got a chance to put into glass. They are modern classics that challenge the status quo!
Agree on the recent Ross Hil releases – very smart
Bought – some of the non-nebb Giuseppe Rinaldi gear, lakes folly ’21 (’23 looks like it’ll be a good one from what I saw), some aged Maté’s from Kumeu River on recent trip
Tasting highlights – Agricola Flaxman shiraz ’22 (such elegance and flavour, atypical for region imo) and arpepe inferno ’15 (grace, length, power, so good)
That Agricola is a spice fest too. Very smart
Just two buys in June, Tonic ’21 Grenache & Farr Rising ’22 Pinot Noir..
Saving dollars for Wendouree Offer..
It has been an expensive month for wines. Couldnt help it with the release of the Joshua Cooper Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Did a quick trip up to the Hunter to taste the new Mount Pleasant Reds. Bought a mixture of Rosehill, OP&OH, Old Hill and Mountain A. Dropped into Thomas Wines Elenay and Sweetwater Shiraz along with Braemore Semillon, and finished the day with lunch at Yellow Billy before the drive back to Sydney.

Bought a Domenica Chardonnay 2023. I like Beechworth Chardonnay. Andrew you know anything about the new Eldorado Chardy ? They’ve used a different vineyard this year.
Also looking forward to having a Kerri Greens Foothills Pinot Noor 2018 and Lethbridge Mietta Pinot Noir 2018.
I haven’t seen the wine so can’t comment. Ben Dahlenburg’s Nomads Garden wines are excellent though, as a side theme.
Selamat Pagi! How good are those Kura Kura beers?!
Buying: Thomas Wines Cote Shiraz, a few 2020 Vajra Bricco delle Viole, Rare Hare (ex Willow Creek Pinots) and a few Moorooduc
The Kura Kura ‘yellow’ is revelatory, let alone the excellent IPA. Only challenge is finding fresh ones.
