The ‘standard’ Tokar Pinot was a rare miss, but this single vineyard fancy wine is a blinder. A bad bottle for the former? Was I feeling a bit grumpy? Who knows, but this Tokar Estate Yarra Junction Reserve Pinot Noir 2023 (long name that) is a delight. From a nearly 25-year-old vineyard at Yarra Junction, this Pinot is driven by very ripe fruit, a real clarity of red cherry and cola and a spicy bunchy twist. It’s a thicker, darker wine for Tokar, but with a drink-me-now sort of meaty hulking power through the middle, and firm tannins to finish. Superior.

Tokar are always of good or better imbibing for the ones I have had. Bring back Covid please when I was getting a 6 pack of good assorted reds and whites for $99 delivered mind you including their black labelled stuff as well. I loved their shiraz tempy blend I think it was and their kardonnays have finesse.
