Probably not my favourite vintage of Hazeldene Chardonnay, although time will be kind as all the bits come together. It’s a warmer, more opulent iteration of this upper Yarra white, and it’s a lot of wine. Importantly, it never feels heavy—there is a great interplay between fine white peach vitality and a warmer, broader vanilla bean warmth. Sometimes, it looks too alcoholic and a bit full, but no doubting the nougat and stonefruit volume. It still amazes me that this is available retail for just $36 – worth the investment.
