Harewood Flux III Chardonnay 2023

Review: Harewood Flux III Chardonnay 2023

Harewood makes superb Riesling. World class. The reds can be pretty smart, even if they’re a bit ripe. The occasional Chardonnay works, too. There’s even a drinkable, well-priced Pinot, which is a giant win. But the experimental Flux label, which features an odd collection of reds and whites, is often a miss. Sorry.

But not today. This Flux III is old-school Chardy that feels fit for purpose. Sourced from Denmark (the Australian one, not the Denmark Denmark), this is golden and biscuity white with some opulence, peach juice, a bit of honeycomb and lanolin. It’s not a shy wine, creamy, and a bit heavy, with ripe peach juice plenty of flavour but also oak tannins. That sounds like a bit too much, but the weight all works and it should please a big Chardonnay-loving crowd. It’s going to be popular.
