If you’re at all interested in the interesting end of Australian wine, the Young Guns Top 50 Winemakers list is a handy compilation of names to watch. Sure, some of the winemakers are not exactly young, but I respect so many of the names on this list. Ben Luker from Meredith Wines is on there, and today it’s another interesting release to land on the Australian Wine and Drinks Review desk. From the Aradale Vineyard in the Grampians, this wild fermented Riesling has big fundamental flavour, but also a little fun nuttiness on the edges. There’s a clear statement of clean, pure green lime fruit, yet also this floral peppery edge too. It’s savoury rather than juicy, and gentle rather than hard. It’s a style that sneaks up on you with its subtle texture, even if it’s an easy wine to miss in a bigger line. Real drinkable.

Thanks for the kind words, Andrew. I hope I still sit in the younger side of that Young Guns list!
