It’s time to get serious about festive season drinking.
With just one week to go until Christmas, now is the time to bring out the good stuff. Nothing but net.
Which begs the question – what are you going to drink this Christmas?
Here at Graham HQ, Christmas is a multi-day, mult-event fiesta that spans dinners, lunches, linners etc. Like every year, there is just one constant in the drinking diet – several bottles of the Primo Joseph Sparkling Red.
There’s a 2023 disgorgement bottle floating around, along with 2024 and 2025, so I have a bit of a vertical to work through this year, and it will be a joy to dive into what is one of Australia’s most complex sparkling wines.
What about you? What are you going to drink this Christmas?
Beyond bubbles, this Christmas may feature some ’04 La Rioja Alta 904 Gran Reserva, ’10 Tyrrell’s Johnno’s Semillon (in the Riesling bottle), a few ’22 Heymann-Lowenstein GGs and my annual checking on the 2017 Raymond Lafon Sauternes, the obligatory magnum of Bollinger and more than one Bentspoke Sprocket (if my Secret Santa got my memo).
What about you?

I managed to snag some Joseph Moda’s through an e-tailer. Hard to find. So will hit of those. Suspect no one will drink it with me however.
Sorry, meant Primo Estate Joseph. I hear the winery might be selling soon. Sad
Promo is for sale too! Not that I’m surprised – peek below the hood and half the wineries in Australia are for sale (with few buyers).
For sparkling, we’ll be sampling Devaux-coeur-de-nature and Dr Edge Tasmanian Extra Brut NV. The wife will
inevitably then be drinking prosecco. I’ll be trying Kumeu River Rays Road chardonnay, Coldstream Hills Deer Farm pinot noir, and Cooper Burns Bloody Valentine Barossa shiraz. New Year with my wine drinking friend will likely see
a variety of exciting wines. regards glyn
I have a Coldstream Hills Deer Farm Pinot Noir 2023 stashed away – your vintage and how was it?
It was really pleasant, definite pinosity, herbaceous, structured. At the discounted price I paid really happy, but there’s so much good Aus pinot out there that I’ll keep exploring.
sorry, same as you, 2023
Thank you !
