For all Orange’s promise as a Pinot producing region, the formula is still hard to get right, even when you’re on a roll (like Pete Logan is lately).

Bright mauve purple red. There is a mixed ripeness character here which blends bacony and raspberry fruit with a menthol, cough syrup and twigs edge. Acid is noticeably high on the palate, a raw ripple cutting through the palate, ultimately delivering a raw, slightly conflicted wine that you love one minute while it pushes away the next.

Time should be kind, though a difficult drink for now.

Drink: 2014-2017
Score: 16/20, 87/100+
Would I buy it? Not yet.
