Pinot Palooza + an excellent new Oakridge Pinot Noir

Dan Sims, Melbourne based wine man and noted negroni lover, was in Sydney this week to promote his latest event – known as Pinot Palooza – bringing with him a beautiful example of Yarra Pinot Noir to illustrate just what the Palooza will be showcasing:

Oakridge Local Vineyard Series WillowLake Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

A brand-new release for Oakridge, this epitomises the rather classic, open knit Yarra Pinot style, loaded with quite ripe red fruits and a finish that suggests gentle handling and perfectly ripe grapes. Importantly, this neither looked overripe nor underpowered, just a Goldilocks style ideal mix of acidity, fruit and fine tannins. Interestingly I had a tasty 2010 David Duband Vosne Romanee on holidays the other week and this had more than a little of that same limpid beauty and Pinot perfection behind it. Great stuff. 18/20, 93/100+

As for Pinot Palooza – suffice to say that if you like Pinot Noir, and can get to either Sydney or Melbourne this October long weekend (or Brisbane the following Sunday), then Pinot Palooza should be very high on your to-do list.

I’ve got no personal involvement in the event, but gee, I’ll be there with bells on.
