If you like the classic, old Leasingham style of yore (back in the good ol’ days when Leasingham was actually a winery in the Clare Valley, not a hollow, forgotten brand) then this should be right up your alley. It’s going to live for ages too.
Grapes destemmed but not crushed, this spent 2 weeks on skins in open fermenters with hand plunging, basket pressing and then 30 months in new and used French and American oak.
Wonderful colour here – boysenberry purple. There’s quite a deal of caramel milkshake oak but it seems part of the wine itself, woven all the way through. Still a little old school regardless, if not without charm and not lacking in concentration. Oak tannins to finish, but fruit tannins in there too.
Much to like for Clare Shiraz lovers, there is heart beyond the oak.

Would I buy it? In 10 years time you’d be quite happy to have this in the cellar I think.
