Another impressive Willow Bridge wine. High five Simon Burnell, who continues to prove that Geographe isn’t just that wine region near Margaret River where they grow Verdelho.Fume in name, but as much a smoky white Bordeaux style than anything else, this is drawn from two ends of the same vineyard – hence the ‘Bookends’ title – with the separate plots of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon chosen for their definition and varietal character.

Hand-picked, whole bunch pressed, wild fermented and matured for 9 months in oak, this is awfully fresh and vital for Geographe. More Margaret River vital than Geographe really, overlaid with solidsy winemaking overtones but also restrained, fresh and light, with somewhat firm acidity. Such freshness! Perhaps a little oak phenolics, but wonderfully fresh and quite long.

Really impressive. High fives indeed.
