So close, yet so far. Making Pinot is never easy and just doesn’t quite have the delicacy that you really want (or I want). No questioning the dedication, however, the wine wild fermented in open fermenters and with a proportion of whole berries.

It smells serious too, all cherry fruit and cloves fruit and meatiness. The palate, however, is a bit mean and awkward, the acidity raised and contrasting to the fruit ripeness, making for something a little lumpy and lacking in genuine fruit. Will it work itself out in time? Maybe, but not quite there for the moment.

  1. I think there's possibly a reason why there's only 3 (that I know of) producers of the heartbreak grape up on the Belt. Ridgemill Estate have produced one for the first time that I am keen to have a look at, a mere 10.5%

  2. 10.5%? Woah. Report back Stu.
