Exciting Orange Shiraz: Printhie MCC Shiraz 2012

My this is exciting stuff. Historically I’ve preferred Drew Tuckwell’s whites to the reds, but this absolutely nails the ‘I’ve been to Crozes-Hermitage and came back with more than a t-shirt’ style.

Bright maroon purple, with lifted white pepper and blueberry, the Viognier (5%)  a slightly noticeable influence, but palate silkiness and late palate bitterness balances out the fleshy fruit.

You get the feeling that Drew is on the cusp of perfection here, though the bitterness is not going to be for all. I love the lusciousness with restraint and spice though – refreshing AND classy.

Would I buy it? I’d smash half a bottle easily.
