Nepenthe can produce excellent Chardonnay, yet the Pinot Noirs leave me cold. Apparently they (Nepenthe Pinots) win a shedload of wine show trophies so clearly I’m in the minority (or such).

My issue is that it lacks elegance, the nose slightly stewed and figgy and ripe, though with twiggy pinosity too. Warm and open palate looks notably hard and boozy, just lacking the juice and vibrance to woo. It’s reasonably long, but ultimately the impression is there isn’t much love here.

Drink: 2014-2017
Score: 15/20, 83/100
Would I buy it? No.
