Thomas Wines Synergy Shiraz 2013
The entry level barrel blend from Andrew Thomas.
Noticeably, this is much less purple than some of the single vineyard wines – much more red than mauve. Animal and earth on the nose, it looks like much less new oak in this blend, with distinctive earthen hints, raised acidity and a quite gruff personality. It feels savoury and earthy for the vintage; not as seductive or juicy as the Sweetwater or as powerful as Elenay.
Good, hearty wine, though not quite up to seduction level yet.
Details: 13.5%, Screwcap, $24
Tasted: June 2015 (sample)
Best drinking: 2015-2026
Score: 17/20, 90/100
Would I buy it? I’d rather pay the extra for Sweetwater
