Sunshine Creek Heathcote Shiraz 2013
This is the pick of the latest Sunshine Creek releases. Cork sealed, with a heavy bottle, this was made by Mario Marson. Matured in French oak for 15 months.
It’s old school, but there is quality here. Deep ruby coloured, it’s initially all about fleshy red fruit and coffee oak. But the tannins and length here is pretty clever, the dark fruit rich and savoury, the oak just adding layers to the palate. the finish long and fine.
There’s something quite attractive about a style like this. It’s not going to win trophies, but the depth and sturdy structure makes it a win, even if the oak is a little too much. Best drinking: 2018-2030. 17.7/20, 92/100. 14.5%, $45. Would I buy it? I’d go a glass or two.
