The Other Wine Co. McLaren Vale Grenache 2016

I’m finally starting to believe that the Grenache revival is upon us. There’s been a few false starts, but with wines like this vibrant red from Shaw & Smith’s new The Other Wine Co. brand as a talisman, then the Grenache dawn will be just a matter of time.

Fruit is sourced from Blewitt Springs, with some whole bunches in the blend. It’s every bit the joven style red, with a cascade of purple, vibrant Grenache fruit. Grape Hubba Bubba, black jubes and then a gently fruity and open palate. What I wasn’t prepared for was the tannins, which are grippy and life-giving. Those tannins transport this from simple quaff into a marvel of lively fruit and energy. Drink now and revel in the joy. Best drinking: 2016-2020. 17.5/20, 91/100. 13%, $26. Would I buy it? Surely would. I could drink loads of this.
