Just 55 dozen produced of Alan Varney’s new Varney Grenache 2020 and it’s delicious. The new vanguard of Grenache-based mid weight McLaren Vale reds from Yangarra. Varney, Juxtaposed, S.C. Pannell et al. are such enjoyable drinks. I’m a big fan.
Blewitt Springs Grenache that spends 5 months in older oak. Ruby coloured raspberry fruit shines here with an easy, unadulterated purity. It’s vibrant and so very drinkable, the red licorice palate a lovely flow of fruit. You could easily dismiss this a simple creature, but that is missing the depth of flavour and bejeweled beauty. Yes. Best drinking: why wait? Drink it within the next 5 years for maximum enjoyment. 18/20, 93/100. 14.2%, $35. Varney website. Would I buy it? A bottle easy.
