Age will not weary this Barossan red. Released with bottle age, and it needs it, this is as much an expression of Yalumba as anything else. Moderated alcohol, heartiness, tannins, fruit. This Yalumba FDR1A Cabernet Shiraz 2015 is a wine for drinking now or in decades time, with the cork seal the only stumbling block.
Already secondary, but in a good way – like a worn-in pair of jeans. It’s more secondary than anything and more a hearty red than strictly really screaming Barossa. But there’s a class to this Cab blend.. Brick dust. Red earth, leather, subtle fruits, a certain tannic energy to it, oak is interwoven through the whole package. Australia’s version of a good Rioja Riserva (at a great price). Maybe a little sweet and sour, but so timeless (and years off its peak).
Yalumba FDR1A Cabernet Shiraz 2015. Best drinking: sure, drink it now. But even two more years would help. It will last for as long as the cork does. 18/20, 93/100+. 13.5%, $50. Yalumba website. Would I buy it? A bottle for the cellar thanks.

Hi Andrew,
I had thought always thought that ‘The Signature’ was Yalumba’s premium Cabernet Shiraz wine. Where does the FDR1A fit in the Yalumba portfolio, above or below the Signature – or is it just a regional difference as I see a reference to Eden Valley on the label above whereas I think the Signature is Barossa Valley?
Cheers ………………. Mahmoud.
