Paisley Maeve Shiraz Cabernet 2019

Review: Paisley Maeve Shiraz Cabernet 2019

I don’t know how much this new Paisley Maeve Shiraz Cabernet 2019 (there is no sticker on the bottle and I can’t find the piece of paper with it), but gee I hope it is affordable. Sub $40 would be great.

DJ Deadly – aka Paisley winemaker Derek Fitzgerald – has spun up another Barossan charmer here too.

A thick, chunky, hearty Barossa red, with an old school, coffeed luxury to it too (a dose of American oak methinks). Like a traditional Penfolds red sort of mode. Hearty, cosseting, stout sort of thing it is too, with dark fruit, some oak tannins to match the fruit tannins. Oak is the textural plank, giving width and roundness, with a little alcohol cut to finish.

I had it with a chill and it looked even better, the cooler temp dialling down the warmth – enhanced the 90s style mode too. Good one.

Best drinking: no hurry. Ten years time it will very much be alive. 18/20, 93/100. 14.5%, $?. Paisley Wines website. Would I buy it? Depends on the price.
