The Vinden Headcase Somerset Vineyard Semillon 2022

Review: The Vinden Headcase Somerset Vineyard Semillon 2022. Classic Sem with a different accent

Angus Vinden is pushing boundaries with his Vinden Headcase label, and it’s a pleasure to see. Here, with The Vinden Headcase Somerset Vineyard Semillon 2022, you can see a trademark intensity of old vine Hunter Valley fruit from a grand vineyard (Somerset) but with more lees ageing, and more phenolics delivering something slightly different.

This is just a little forward on the nose – less pristine green apple, more thicker lemony action. But it’s tangy, chewy and seriously intense underneath. That palate feels riper than the traditional Hunter Valley idiom but delivers a flavour punch as a result…

Fascinating.
