Pikes The Dogwalk Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Pikes solid slice of Clare Valley Cabernet for $29

I’ve done a quick Google to discover this Pikes The Dogwalk Cabernet Sauvignon 2022, available retail for $19.99.

It’s a shitload of wine for $20.

More importantly, this tastes like a proper medium-bodied, minty Clare Valley Cabernet. There’s pencil shavings, dark minty blackcurrant and then firm lines. It’s moderate, a bit gruff, a bit hard, and made for drinking later. If anything, the Clareness works against it – it’s minty rather than generous. Those lines are classy though, you’ll just need a little patience for it to hit peak drinking.\

    THE VERDICT

  • Best drinking: later. Probably five years required for a good drinking groove
  • Score (out of 20): 17.5
  • Score (out of 100):
  • Alcohol %: 13.5
  • RRP (in $AUD): 29
  • Winery website: https://pikeswines.com.au/
  • Would I buy it?: worth a glass or two
