From the up-and-coming Ferguson Valley in WA, I can’t help but feel the labelling here does the wine no favours – simple black screwcap, cheap paper and simple bottle, none of which suggests quality Chardonnay.
Still, underneath this is a cool, early-picked, melon and grapefruit driven Chardonnay with a nicely balanced, almost milky finely leesy palate. Texturally very attractive and certainly fresh and lively, suggesting early picked fruit and careful use of oak and limited malolactic fermentation.
Good, fresh Chardonnay needing just a little more intensity required for greatness.
