Mauro Veglio Langhe Nebbiolo ‘Angelo’ 2012
14%, Cork, $35
Wines like this remind that Langhe Nebbiolo doesn’t always need years in barrel to impress.
Imported by Beaune & Beyond, the importer business of Philip Rich (Melbourne-based wine writer and retailer), this terrific Nebbiolo comes off young vines in the prestigious Barolo communes of La Morra and Monforte d’Alba – which effectively makes this young vine Barolo.
Fittingly, it’s structured more like a baby Barolo rather than a more loose-knit Langhe Neb, the tannins firm and long, the extraction and length not quite the level of a ‘proper’ Barolo (not surprising given it spends 6 days on skins and 12 months in barrel) but with a perfume and balance that is so delightful that any Nebbiolo fan won’t want to put this down.
The ideal wine to drink while you wait for your ’10 Baroli to come around, at a seriously smart price.

Hi Andrew
Thanks for your notes on the Veglio Langhe; really keen to try it. Do you know where I can source it? Does Beaune & Beyond have a retail presence? Google wasn't particularly forthcoming…
Cheers
Nick
