Coriole Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo 2010
Tasted alongside the Pizzini and the Quealy in a little Nebbiolo trio, which I looked at over the course of this week (best to start here).
Unlike the other Coriole wines, which are largely McLaren Vale sourced, this comes from a ‘well established low yielding vineyard in Gumeracha’ which I’m assuming is Protero (fits the bill).
Compared to the other two wines in the trio, this initially looked the most composed and varietal, the rusticity about right. It looked the most forward at the end of the week, but the tannic drive remained excellent. That was a big win.
Stylistically this was impressive, with a ‘treacle meets earth’ fragrance like a warm year Barolo (ie ’09). It’s quite mid-weight, but driven by tannins (extended maceration showing nicely here).
Ultimately I like the cut of this wines jib. If it was just a little less ‘dry-reddish’ and vital it would be even better. Recommended regardless.
