Hither & Yon Old Jarvie The Enforcer Shiraz Mataro Malbec 2016

Hither & Yon Old Jarvie The Enforcer Shiraz Mataro Malbec 2016

From Hither & Yon’s newish label that pays homage to Admiral John Jervis. There’s character about the wines too.

This is a bold, fruity and luscious number. It smells of juicy blood plum fruit and cherry cola, the palate is similarly full of black fruit in an inky, of reductive style. Crammed to the gills with black fruit flavour, it’s just a little hot and heavy to finish, but for impact and juicy, ripe, black jelly beans and Dr Pepper southern Vale flavour it hits the spot. Best drinking: I’d like to give it a few more years, to try and tame the exuberance. But drinkable now. 17.5/20, 91/100. 14.5%, $30. Would I buy it? A glass or two.
