Arguably, some of the best wines from the Taylor family’s myriad of labels are the Riesling releases, followed by the Cabernets, which is the correct order for the Clare Valley (although Cab blends might fight it out with that). This mature release Taylors St Andrews Riesling 2020 is quality Clare juice entering its ideal drinking window too. Lifted and fresh lime fruit looks two years old, not four, with that just-right combo of freshness and a little hint of softness on the edges. Big-time power on the palate, though – it’s a robust thing, with concentrated lime juice and then a chalky grip. Layer after layer of punchy lime and just the faintest mid-palate width from bottle age. I dig it (and so would anyone who likes that Clare Riesling archetype). It might even get better in another 2-3 years with more bottle age.
